Only vehicles owned or leased by you the permittee, which have been properly registered with the Parking Operator. Using any other vehicle could result in a citation and/or revocation of your permit.
Q: As a permittee, can I park one of my cars in the lot without the permit?
A:
No. It is unlawful to park any vehicle in any of the lots without properly displaying your permit. Failure to do so can result in a citation.
Q: I purchased a new plate for my registered vehicle. Do I need to notify the Parking Operator?
A:
Yes, we need to know the plate number immediately. You then have up to 60 days to give us a copy of the new registration.
Q: The hang tag permit is not showcased in my vehicle or fell off. Will I receive a citation?
A:
Yes. It is your responsibility to see that the permit is properly affixed to the rear view mirror.
Q: The only vehicle I have is in the shop with mechanical problems. May I park an unregistered vehicle in the commuter lots while my vehicle is being repaired?
A:
Yes, but you must, if at all possible, transfer the permit to the unregistered vehicle. Then you must also call the Parking Operator and request a temporary exemption. You will need to give information on the unregistered vehicle's make, color, and plate number.
Q: I mailed my payment for next month’s permit on the last day of the current month. Will I receive a citation if I continue to park in the lots before I get the permit in the mail?
A:
Yes. It is your responsibility to allow an adequate time frame to purchase AND OBTAIN your permit. If purchasing by mail, you should send your check at least 7-10 days before the new month begins.
Q: I own a motorcycle. Can I park in the commuter parking lots without a permit?
A:
You must have a commuter parking permit in order to park a motorcycle in the commuter lots. The permit cannot be displayed, but the motorcycle must be registered with the Parking Operator.
Q: Where do I display my permit?
A:
The permit must be displayed ON the front windshield rear view mirror. To display the permit anywhere else could result in a citation for improper display.
Q: My parking permit constantly fall off the windshield rearview mirror. May I tape it on?
A:
Yes, you may affix it any way that you desire, as long as it is visible and located in the lower passenger corer of the front windshield. Then you must also call the Parking Operator and request a temporary exemption.
Q: If I am allowed to transfer my permit from one vehicle to another, how come the code states any transferring of permits is automatic revocation of said permit?
A:
You are allowed to transfer your permit only between the two vehicles registered to you and on file in the Parking Operator’s office. To use your permit on any other vehicle, whether owned by you or someone else, is in violation of Borough’s Code, and could result in a citation and/or revocation of your permit.
Q: I purchased a new vehicle, but I am using the same license plate. Do I have to call the Parking Operator?

Yes, we need information on the vehicle (year, make, color, and the fact that you are using the same plate) on the first day you start to drive the new vehicle. You then have up to 30 days to give us a copy of the new registration.
Q: As a permittee for the commuter lots, where can I park?
A:
The commuter lots will be striped in designated areas within to clearly indetify where monthly permit parking is assigned. You are not assigned a particular spot. Do not park where signage indicates "Handicap" permit parking unless this applies to you.
Q: I purchased a new vehicle and am waiting for a new plate. Should I wait until I get the plate before calling the Parking Operator?

No, you must call the Parking Operator on the first day of using a new vehicle in the lots, even if you don't have your plate yet. You will have to call again when you get the plate. You have up to 30 days to give us a copy of the state registration.
Q: My spouse and I own three vehicles. The parking permit is in my name. The State of New Jersey registration for the Chevy shows both of our names, the Olds registration is in my spouse's name only, and the Honda is in my name only. Which of these vehicles may I register on my commuter parking permit?

You may register the Chevy and the Honda on you commuter parking permit. You can not register the Olds on your parking permit. If you were to legally add your name to the Olds state registration, then you could have any two of the three vehicles listed on your parking permit.
